Two treks into Volcanoes NP to visit the mountain gorillas. As in 2004, we stayed in the Virunga Lodge, arranged by Volcanoes Safaris. This time we saw two families. Guhonda is reputed to be the oldest silver back in his late 30's. He is certainly a majestic animal.
One surprise this trip was our experience with gorillas drinking water from a stream. We had been told that they obtained all their fluids from the moisture in the foliage they eat.
Another highlight was a mother with a six day old baby. She passed close by me but was very protective.
