Roseate Spoonbills are one of my favorite birds to photograph. First, when in breeding plumage, their colors are spectacular. Second, they are large birds, which I like a lot more than little ones. Third, they have a unique bill, which is suited for their feeding, but gives them an appearance unlike any others.

You can find them in a lot of locations in Florida, but my favorite is a breeding colony located in Alafia Banks, near Tampa, Florida. There is an Audubon Sanctuary located in Hillsborough Bay at the mouth of the Alafia River.

This is actually a very active rookery with thousands of nesting pairs and many species of birds.

This gallery is a collection of my favorite spoonbill images.
