The first five days of the trip involved getting organized, getting on the ship, crossing the Drake Passage and then breaking ice to Snow Hill island. It turned out to be more of an adventure than I imagined. I learned that ice breakers don't have a keel, which proved to accentuate the seas in the Drake Passage, but they are also incredible machines when in the ice.
